My Writing On Read Write Web

I have been written a few hundred posts for Read Write Web since July 2007. Here they are in 14 categories:

1. SaaS & Enterprise 2.0. I spent many years in the traditional enterprise software industry, so it is fascinating to watch this huge transition. It feels like the golden age of software when quality of user experience matters more than financial/marketing clout.

2. Innovation Capital. Entrepreneurs create the start-ups that create the jobs, products/services and wealth we all rely on. The process of innovation is fascinating. Venture Capital (VC) plays a key role, so I interview a lot of VC. But Innovation Capital is way more, it includes angels, founder’s sweat and an ecosystem that includes vendors, advisers and incubators.

3. Real Time Web. Its a big new wave. I worked in an earlier generation of real time computing (on trading floors), so it is interesting to see this wave unfold.

4. Under The Radar Innovation. Occasionally I spot a start up that is not getting the recognition it deserves.

5. Start-Up 101. These 30 how-to posts were conceived as a series and take the first time entrepreneur all the way from earliest dreams to cashing out.

6. Bits of Destruction Hit The Book Publishing Business. I love books and I love innovation and I hope that the industry figures out a way to profitably give us great books in the future.

7. Online Publishing. I have been involved in online publishing since before the Internet and my year as COO of Read Write Web provided insight into the blog-centric model. I am figuring out the sustainable competitive advantage in this market.

8. Entrepreneurs – raves and unsolicited advice. Gritty bootstrapping entrepreneurs are the real heroes of the innovation economy. I find entrepreneurs to rave about, interview them and offer them unsolicited advice.

9. Social Networking. Is it possible to say anything original about Social Networking. I try, I try!

10. Globalization. Having worked on start-ups in Europe, Asia and America I am fascinated by how the style of innovation we associate with Silicon Valley  is going global and being impacted by globalization.

11. Economic Environment. Occasionally, when the economy is in a transition phase, I attempt to abstract the key points to help entrepreneurs make sense of the external environment.

12. Search – Tilting At The Google Windmill. Tracking the start-ups and strategies that want some of those $ billions.

13. P2P – Dreams Of Disruption. I have a theory that Peer To Peer technologies will create the next big wave of disruption away from cloud centralization to the Internet’s native decentralized model. Time will tell whether this is visionary or pipe-dreaming.

14. Miscelaneous Rants & Raves. These posts defy my earnest attempts at classification.
