Dear Bernard,

I am a student of business, i'm writing a thesis about semantic vertical search engines, the way they foster innovation, i'm pretty sure they do...but i need a case study or at least some data to show it.
I read many articles about semantic and vertical search engines, also some yourse, which i found very nice, but no case study, no evidences that link this search engines with innovation.
Where can i search them? What can i do?
(or maybe if these search engines are just tools that companies can use, i could find statistics that show the benefits - or products)

I hope you have some good tips for me..

Kind Regards,

Giovanni De Villa

Outsourcing companies that innovate and move up the value chain will do just fine. Those that rely on labor cost arbitrage will not. Rising wages is a good thing fpr India and the global economy.

Bill, thanks, good to hear from you. It is interesting to see how people find this Blog even though I have not told anybody about it as yet. Mostly I am hearing that the source was Google Alerts. Yes you are right there is a big age difference. If I had teenage kids I would be freaking out probably, heaven know what my six year old will be looking at in 4 years time....
Lets chat offline as they say in Cyberspace :-)

Hey Bernard, nice post-

I would add two things to your drivers of social networking evolution: age, and physical connection. Traditionally communities are created with physical, face-to-face interactions. I think today's young people are much more comfortable creating community without a physical connection so this may be changing (see New York Magazine article here: http://nymag.com/news/features/27341/). But the best long-term use of the social networking tools might be supplemental to an event or social gathering.

Great post Bernard!

Just stopping over to thank you for the mention and to offer a comment.

I'd like offer my take on whether "publishers can do this directly within their own infrastructure?"

Publishers can easily explore SEM and Organic SEO today via internal resources or simple outsourcing to a specialist. There are literally zero barriers to entry other than time, patience, and budget.

The Affiliate Marketing model is something quite different on the other hand. It's not whether they can do it own with their current infrastructure...the technology is not the challenge. Adoption of the program is the challenge. Without an extremely diverse selection of content/offers, website publishers will be forced to look elsewhere. It's not often that you find sites promoting Pots from one affiliate program and pans from another. The site publisher will simply go to someone like Amazon or Ebay that offers those items and much more.

Just my 2 cents...

Thanks,

David Fortino
